Here's the asteroid story, http://impact.arc.nasa.gov/news_detail.cfm?ID=165

NASA has a page specifically for asteroid and comet impact haszards. The asteroid is called Apophis, and there is a maximum probability of 20% it could hit the Earth in 2036.
