Is you is or is you ain't a Maverick?

So let me get this right... In 2007 when the country started turning against George Bush a bunch of Republicans were wanting to run for President. It was a hard sell to get the word out that you were in the GOP and wanting the job of President. You had to separate yourself from the Republican administration. You needed to let the world know that you weren't just a party line guy. You had to let the voters know that you were brave and you didn't care about anything involving politics, you only cared about the people. You had to let them know that you were a MAVERICK!!

Let's face it.. the ending of the Bush Presidency was a mess. But this tale does not start there. We have to go even further back ....

In 1999 President Clinton was leaving office after a fairly successful presidential run. Polls were showing if given the option people would vote for him a third time but alas the only choice Americans were going to have was Super Liberal Al Gore. Gore's liberalism scared Americans who loved the middle that Clinton had slid towards . This did not go unnoticed by John McCain who let us all know he was practically an independent. He was against any kind of money from corporations being given to candidates. He was closer to Clinton in his ideals than he was to this George Bush.... the person he was running against in the Primaries. The "practically a Democrat or Independent" McCain applied this strategy and lost the primary.
Flash Forward to 2003....

the 2003Invasion of Iraq that went from a rally with President Bush flying onto an aircraft carrier with a flight suit and giving a "lets go America" speech and letting us know that the war was over, it only took a couple months, we kicked a bunch of Iraqi ass, Iraqi's loved us so much they were naming their children George, we were ousting that evil Hussein by pulling down his statue in the middle of the street. And there was John McCain reminding us that he too was in the military and also if need be could fly onto an aircraft carrier unless he was shot down and held captive by the enemy. The John McCain at that time was a Super bad ass American, Pro Military, Pro Bush Republican. Why there was never a better and badder Republican like John McCain, Just ask him. Why he was ready to drop nukes on the whole Muslim world he was such a hawk. He was super Conservative and 100% behind the popular administration letting the country know that when Bush had to leave in 2008 he would be ready to take over.

Flash Forward to 2007...
the elimination of PayGo was causing a huge deficit, the wars in the middle east both turned into Quagmires, the years of deregulation in the financial sector were causing greed fueled behavior that inevitably was going to lead to the mess we all suffer from today. In other words the country had firmly turned against George Bush. Public sentiment became firmly entrenched against Republicans. The leading nominee Mitt Romney was letting us know that he Governed a very Liberal state and even pushed through Health care reform for his state. He was letting us know he was nothing like George Bush. Romney was winning early in the polls but he made a mistake. He didn't come up with a label. But Guess who Did? The MAVERICK, that's who. John McCain was letting us know that he voted against or wanted to vote against George Bush on everything. He was against these quagmires in the middle east, He was against eliminating PayGo, He saw nothing wrong with higher taxes for the wealthy, and by God we needed to do something with Healthcare in this country. John McCain would not stop reminding us how he was not very conservative. He was almost middle like. That's right it's like he got in the Hot Tub Time Machine and went back to 2000 and he was once again channeling his post Bill Clinton primary ideals. He was proud to let the world know he was a Maverick. He shouted it from the rooftops " I am a Maverick". He even had his running mate Sara Palin out doing campaign stops once again reminding everyone that was indeed a Maverick. He Lost.

Flash Forward to NOW...
The Democrats are in charge and the President just passed Health Care reform and re-regulations of the financial sector are right around the corner. John McCain should be ecstatic right? Wrong! McCain who is now polling down against a Super Conservative opponent for his Republican nomination for Senate reelection has suddenly or should I say expectedly changed tones again..... He has now decided that He is not a Maverick and in fact has told Newsweek Magazine that he never called himself a Maverick and never referred to himself as a Maverick and is most definitely not a Maverick.

In fact when it comes to explaining McCain's positions on things you can say he is against everything that Obama is for. Just like you can say he was Against Everything Bush was For in 2007. Or against everything AL Gore and George Bush were for in 2000.

This is once again proof that John McCain changes with the weather. Let's face it if you change your ideals once you call it an Epiphany. If you change them twice you can say it was an error in judgement and an eventual enlightenment. But John McCain has changed them over and over again. The man completely sells out his ideals according to the polls. He's like a football Fan who calls for the coaches firing whenever the team loses and cries out for an extension after a game is won.

There are many people in politics that I think are wrong in how they think. But I at least respect their conviction in there stances. What I can't stand is politicians who's major concern is winning the election. My hope is that people will one day become more brave, more Maverick like. Unfortunately it looks like it's going the other way as I see people like Mitt Romney now saying he is against Health care reform that was partly based on his reform he enacted while Governor of Massachusetts.

I know John McCain is old but he does realize that technology does exist right? We actually can find proof of hypocrisy these days. Just check out You tube. It's filled with it. Look at the Daily Show and Colbert Report... They couldn't do a show without republican hypocrisy. Same goes for O'Reilly on Foxnews, although he prefers the hypocrisy of the Democratic variety. Fortunately for those show John McCain gives them plenty from both sides of the aisle.
Here is John McCain most definitely not being a Maverick
